Proactive childbirth education designed with you in mind

You wouldn’t plan a road trip without learning how to drive - so why would you go through childbirth without learning how it works? My custom childbirth education classes include the anatomy and physiology of labor and birth, comfort measures and coping techniques for the big day, background on the options that will be available to you at your birth location, and other topics tailored to your individual preferences. If you know you want a vaginal unmedicated birth, I'm not going to spend a ton of time discussing medical pain relief or Cesarean birth - although we will do a brief overview of both. On the flip side, if you know you want an epidural, I won't devote a lot of time talking about laboring out of bed. If you have special circumstances around your pregnancy, I will create custom modules to fit your situation. Time is precious for all of us and I want to spend it sharing the resources that will benefit you the most.

No one can predict the outcome of labor and birth. Switching up your birth plan is sometimes the baby's first way of showing you who's boss! But childbirth education is the best way to prepare for all scenarios. You will know how what to expect in your ideal situation, and if you are in an unexpected situation you aren't completely caught off-guard. 

Class formats to fit your schedule

I know you're busy! That's why I offer our childbirth series in a number of different ways to accommodate any schedule and can all be done privately in your home, over video conferencing, or at one of my shared office locations. I also offer group discounts for three couples or more! Choose from:

  • Comprehensive 4-week course

    • Includes topics listed above, according to client’s needs

  • Express 4-hour “Birth Basics” course (Private or through Birth Tribe in New Britain and New Haven*)

    • An overview of pregnancy, labor, and birth, geared towards birthing in a hospital setting. This class does not cover hands-on comfort techniques.

  • Advanced Comfort Measures course (Through Birth Tribe in New Britain and New Haven*)

    • A hands-on class to learn massage techniques from a LMT and comfort techniques used by doulas with their clients. A good companion to the Birth Basics class.
